Interesting read for folks that weld or even those that may be close by when someone else is welding.

We found this out during my build, cleaned a part before welding...3 of us(especially the welder Copey), were very disturbed by the smell.  The effects were not as bad as this guys, but Brake cleaner and welding together is the devil.

I read this before, and I have a question. What else can be used for cleaning that won't kill you with the fumes?

I've used Acetone for a long time for cleaning prior to welding.

X2.  Strike an arc and go.  If you are still coherent after then first 10 or 15 seconds, you're good.

If it wont clean up with a grinder/wire-wheel, its too damaged to be welded.
