Just wanted to introduce myself and my rig. New to the forums and hopefully soon will be an active participating member. I drive a 2004 Nissan Xterra... yes... an xterra. I don't see many if any nissans here so I guess I should prepare to be flamed by you jeep guys 'n' gals. It's not your ordinary xterra though. I've tweaked it a bit to suit my needs and the trails. Wanting to meet some area people to hit trails with or at least find LEGAL trails to ride. I normally go up to Windrock/Coal Creek in Tennessee to get my fix but would like to find something reasonably local as well.
Look forward to what the RCRC has to offer as I've heard many good things.

Welcome! Check out our home page and the " http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/about_us.htm - About Us " link if you haven't already. It should tell you everything you need to know about membership. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. Forum is probably the best way or PM one of us.
Again, welcome.

Welcome! I've never wheeled with a Nissan, so this could be interesting. I've been wondering how nice an Xterra would be with solid axles and lockers. Do those things even have frames, or unibody?

The xterras have an actual frame thank goodness. After seeing my buddy's pathfinder and another buddy's XJ with a unibody, I'm glad I went this route. An xterra with a SAS and lockers is quite nice. I know a few guys who've swapped the IFS out for a solid axle and pull off some pretty amazing stuff. SAS is way down the list of mods I want to do since mine is my DD but I'm hoping to add an ARB air-locker next year. Right now I'm running the crappy ol' open diffs. I have a factory LSD but the torque break is so low that it's practically non-existent.
I've got another buddy with a jeep who will be joining in the next few weeks hopefully and both of us are really looking for some local places to hit the trails. Right now we have to make weekend trips up into Tennessee and North Carolina to find good legal places to ride.
I'd be glad to hit the trails with you guys so you can see what my X can and can't do.

This is I guess the most recent pic but this is before I added new UCA's and sliders. I run 33" tires on a 2nd set of steelies so I can spare the tread. This was at Coal Creek up in Oliver Springs, TN. That's my buddy Tuff with his shrocked and locked xterra in front of me.

Hi... My name is Lee Anna Wright and I'm the Membership Chairman for RCRC. We would be glad to have you join us at any of our upcoming events. Our Events Calendar is posted on our website at http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/calendar/default.htm - http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/calendar/default.htm .
Here is some general information about our club: http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/about_us.htm - http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/about_us.htm
Our monthly meeting is the first Thursday of each month at Golden Rule BBQ in Madison (next one scheduled 11/6/08). The meeting starts at 7:00, but we all usually get there around 6:00 to eat. At each meeting, we typically set up a ride or two for the month.
Along with club rides, our club puts on the "King of the Hill" event annually. Check http://www.koth4x4.com/ - http://www.koth4x4.com for some great pictures!
If I can answer any questions, please let me know....
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Welcome. I ran some events with a guy who had a built X and it was pretty amazing what he did with that thing. It took a lot of abuse and still performed.

Hahahaha... well this isn't my first or only forum. I belong to another nissan club (NOAS) and 3 other xterra forums as well as a moderator for clubxterra.org. So I kinda know my way around. But thanks for the welcome guys/gals. Hoping to make your next meeting and really looking forward to hitting the trails.

My favorite trail at Windrock. We need to head back up there sometime and check out the Brimstone area adjacent to Windrock.

Yea mine is relegated to work truck and towing the JetSki and the occasional bronco when your buddy hydrolocks his motor and the only other thing to pull him up the hill is a fourwheeler. Im interested in seeing how the IFS is set up on an xterra to compare it to my hardbody.

Yeah 39 is a fun one for sure. On that day we had to turn back unfortunately. Right where my buddy is parked ahead of me is a nice slick rock section and with all the rain and mud, we just couldn't get the traction to make it up. I think my buddies could have made it but since I'm running open diffs and at the time bald a/t tires, I knew I'd never make it up. I'm wanting a rematch with #16 myself. My last attempt was cut short after my partner snapped a leaf spring.
If any of you guys ever want to get a trip together up there, I'd love to tag a long and I have a few buddies up there that would/could join us. One is that other xterra in the picture (locked rear, dual 5 gal. OBA system) and another with a locked hardbody who took the picture.
Here's a vid of a run we made back in May. Kind of timid for the most part since we had a NOAS club run the following week and didn't want to destroy our rigs before then (I almost did it anyways...lol).

So where do I /can I go to find info on upcoming trail runs, meetings, etc.? I did find that the meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month correct? Do I have to attend a meeting prior to being able to go on a trail run? How do I find out about when the trail runs are and where they are located?
Thanks for the help. Just got back from Dayton, TN watching the W.E.ROCK competitions and now I'm itching to get out a play a little as well.

My brother-in-law Cole was up there Saturday with Scott. Scott was driving a lime green Jeep. I think he was doing pretty good until he rolled.
We are going down to Gray Rock next weekend (mostly working the event) and then up to Harlan, Ky on Nov 14. Y'all are welcome to come along. Our next club meeting is the first Thursday in Nov.

Yep, I know the spot. The last time we were there it was muddy and I think Don was the only one to make it up without winching. Then we had to winch again at the very end of 39.

If it's the jeep I'm thinking of, he had a pretty good day Sunday but not sure where he finished. It was a lime green CJ with a number 17 on the side. I think the rig of the day was the neon green tube buggy running a small block chevy on propane. It was one seriously awesome rig.

I was talking with some guys about this while I was up there. I was thinking about going down to try it out but it's going to come down to whether or not I get my sliders welded on in time. I've had them but I've been out of town/working the past 3 weeks and haven't had the time. I was going to take it by and see if I could drop it off at Rocket City Offroad and have them do it while I'm at work. I work at Inergi Design on Governor's Dr. I just don't know if Gray Rock has enough trails friendly enough for a rig on 33's and open diffs though. And I'm still kinda partial to my body panels.
And I may take you up on that Harlan run. The NOAS holds an annual club run there every spring so I'd like to see what I can get into up there.

I'm taking a purdy Jeep with open front and rear with no rocker guards to Grey Rock this weekend.
There is a HUGE variety of trails out there and you can simply ride around wherever you please and hop out and watch the big guys on the difficult stuff. It's a fun event.

Well in that case, I may have to check it out. I'm thinking if I do go down there, it will be Sunday because of the Alabama vs Tennessee game. Unless we get some rain, I may just run my A/T's instead of putting my 33's on and driving down. And I'd like to watch the actual competition.
I'll have a better idea later this week if I'm going or not and I'll post up here so maybe we could meet up down there or something. Shouldn't be hard to spot me as I'm probably going to be the only xterra there.

Two years ago, they had a competition on Sunday, I couldn't make it last year to know if they did that or not, but you may be able to watch that Sunday perhaps.

I wish I could do that. I guess I could strap a couple to my roof rack and put 3 in the back. Although an 80+ pound tire is quite a chore to get down from a roof rack. hahaha
As of right now... I'm going. I'm thinking I'll get there early and hit a few trails Sunday then go find a few good spots to take pictures of the competitors. Anybody else that may go down Sunday, if you want to caravan, that would be great because I've never been there.

Haven't met him yet but I'm familiar with that truck. Talked to him just a few weeks ago about the bumper on it. NOAS is having a run in February down at River Rock in Milledgeville and I'm sure I'll meet him there.

That's actually where that pict was taken at the 06 Raid 'North' Georgia offroad adventure ralley. Small park, lots of sand, not all that impressive for the drive.
