Just heard this this morning. Would be cool with the 4 wheel motors if they can pull it off. Torque specs on electric motors would be awesome for off road. DRS used that on the Hybrid HUMVEE we built. Performance specs out performed the stock HUMVEE (and you could rotate it around the center axis for tight turns, but you had to replace most of the suspension bolts afterward, lots of stress doing that). At even half the gas mileage the extended range is estimated at this is a great idea. Interesting to see how it actually pans out.

I saw this as well, and am VERY intreged...it looks like they have a small disel motor to "recharge" the battery's to extend the range.

If it came out I would definilty look closely at it.

I've already thought of a couple of different approaches to do one. I've studied where someone in TX or CO made a full EV cherokee. Big drawback I've seen on these is 40 mile range on a charge. Having some way to dynamically recharge the batteries is an interesting thought.

I've heard of RWD electric cars running and alternator/generator off a pulley mounted to the rear differential pinion.  Like the NASCAR guys do to run the oil pump to lube the rear end gears.
