I priced 3/16 4x8 sheet steel. Their price is no better than others I contacted.
BTW steel is crazy expensive!

Did they have it in stock or would they have to order it?

They arent better priced, their business model is to sell small quantities for an increased per inch but will sell down to an inch of whatever material you need.

I looked at this franchise myself about 5 or 6 years ago

I just wondered how much metal they will be keeping in stock.  I've had excellent results getting steel from L Miller and Sons, but they have to ordered it and it takes 2 or 3 days.

If it's like the one I used to go to in Nashville, they will keep quite a lot of tube and bar.  They usually had a sheet of regular steel per thickness up to 3/4. A good bit of aluminum round, square, and rectangular bar. Some aluminum sheet as well. Smaller stainless round, square, and rectangular bar and some thinner stainless sheets. I think they had up to 1/8.

The one in 'Nooga is very good to work with, will cut you almost any size/shape.  If you have a project, instead of buying a whole sheet and wrestling the monster, just enter your bill of materials into their shopping cart and go pick up the pieces cut to the sizes you want.  MAkes the somewhat higher price much more palatable.  Their selecting / sizing tool on the web works pretty well.

BTW, a few days ago, a 2'X2' 16ga sheet from HomeDepot was over $65, and from MetalsSupermarket was $49

Went to metals supermarket for the first time yesterday.  I needed some 1-1/2 round hrew.  Called them up and they had.  Saved me from having to wait until next Wednesday to get it.
