Who has a "Truck" white tag that is for commercial vehicles on their personal truck? I have been in heated debate with license department over their 8000lb rule. Web site states anything over 8000lbs GVW requires commercial tag. My debate is the county's use of GVW in their rule book but they say GVW and GVWR are the same-and they are not. if they are going to hold onto this rule every F150, GM and Dodge 1500/2500 &3500 are going to get hit with commercial tags.

We have an x1 tag on Samantha's dodge 3500 as its a 12,200 gvwr truck. What i was told and shown in the tag fee schedule is the passenger car tag stops at 10k gvwr.  I know several people that have been ticketed by troopers for having a p tag on a truck with a gvwr over 10k.

On license Dept. web site-there is a 8000lb GVW reference-and if they want to mean GVWR-then they should correct the rule. All full size pickups break the 8000LB GVWR RULE

your right that gvw and gvwr are not the same. Gvw is your current curb weight and gvwr is your max legal weight.

Limestone County told me it is based on the empty weight of the truck, no trailer.
If for private use only.

I tried to buy the commercial tag and they argued with me and said, no.

Interesting. My 06 Ram 3500 still has regular tags. Just renewed in January with no issue.

Our 2017 F350 has regular tags but we live in Limestone so maybe they got it right.

They made Samantha buy a commercial tag for her dodge 3500 dually. It's a 12,200 gvwr truck. She has an X1 tag. X1 is 12,000 to 18,000 lbs. They also made my brother in law buy an XA tag for his Chevy 3500 dually.  Xa is 10,000 to 12,000 lbs gvwr. We were told and show that the P tags only go up to 10,000 lbs gvwr and anything over that is considered commercial due to its gvwr.

A dot medical card is now required in Alabama for anything over 10,000 lbs according to the state troopers.  I know several folks that have gotten ticketed driving their dually towing race car trailers.
