The article does not seem to address the safety aspect of this issue, ie having to look at the bleeping screen to do something that can be done by feel with buttons, without ever taking eyes off the road.  Also, with the capacitive screens, you must have correct kind of gloves to work anything, or else pull the gloves off, which is another PITA and safety issue.
