'Monster Garage' Host James to Pay Fine
Saturday, January 27, 2007 3:46 AM EST
The Associated Press

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — "Monster Garage" reality show host Jesse James has agreed to pay $271,250 for violating California's air quality laws by selling motorcycles that did not meet the state's strict emissions standards, authorities said.

His Long Beach motorcycle building shop, West Coast Choppers, sold more than 50 new or custom-built motorcycles between 1998 and 2005 that were not certified by the Air Resources Board, the agency said in a statement Friday.

Attempts to reach James for comment Friday were unsuccessful. An employee who answered the phone at West Coast Choppers said the company would have no comment.

As part of a settlement, the shop is building motorcycles that comply with emission standards, the board said.

James is married to actress Sandra Bullock. His Discovery Channel series about customized vehicles aired for five seasons.

Hate to hear that.  FWIW, James is an offroader too.  He is active in the desert racing community.  Didn't come into it with a chip on his shoulder either, which I admire.  At the 2005 Baja 1000, his chase helicopter landed in our pit and borrowed 10 gallons of gas, for the helicopter.  Sandra was down there with him for the pre-race activities.

I was answering Case.

I figured anyone stupid enough to get drunk and then ride around on a scooter needs to be removed from the gene pool.

Yea - I haven't heard about that either.

Al - whatcha talkin' about?  More details?

Jesse James - the guy we're talking about lives in Southern California and would likely not be caught dead on a "scooter".  I'm not saying that he doesn't travel and that alcohol can persuade people do stoopid crap like get on scooters but....?

Motorcycle guy was driving a Dodge Ram when he attempted to pass someone on  double yellowed road.  Guy on the scooter was going the other way and was killed.  MC guy was cited for DUI IRC.  Gotta meeting, let me find the Pirate or Arfcom thread when I get back.

Well, I did a little research and this is what I think Al is talking about.

Billy Lane Bike Builder Arrested for DUI Manslaughter

On Monday Sept. 25th nationally known bike builder and star of motorcycle TV show Biker Build off , Billy Lane (William David Lane), was arrested , after surrendering to the Florida Highway patrol in Cocoa Beach Florida.

Lane was charged with DWI Manslaughter, driving with a suspended license, and DWI- Serious bodily injury to another. Lane was transported to the Brevard County Jail

by Florida Highway Patrol officers where he spent less than two hours before being released on $15,000 bond.  The $15,000 bail is the standard bond for these charges according to the Florida State Police.

On the evening of Sept. 4th, Lane reportedly crossed a double yellow line, on A1A in Melbourne Beach, while driving his Dodge Pick-up truck to pass several cars. According to witnesses’, Lane hit a moped “Head On” being driven by 56 year old Gerald Morelock. Morelock a local park ranger apparently was returning to his home from work when the accident occurred. Morelock was pronounced dead at the scene. After the impact of the moped Lane ran off the road, hit numerous palm trees and overturned against a power pole.

According to police accounts, Lane sustained injuries along with his passenger Erin Derrick. Both Lane and Derrick were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment. Apparently at the hospital Lane refused a blood test. According to Police, officers held Lane down while a nurse took the blood sample. This sample was then sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcements lab in Orlando for testing.

Earlier this summer Lane had a run in with law enforcement when he was arrested in North Carolina for driving on the wrong side of the road, driving without a helmet, and DUI. During that episode Lane was reported to refuse a breathalyzer test and his drivers license was suspended for one year. A court date of Oct. 5th is scheduled for those North Carolina charges.

In the Florida case, Lane’s blood test came back at .192, more than twice the legal limit of .08 according to Kim Miller , Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson. Miller also said ”At the time of the crash, Lane’s license had been suspended” Miller went on to say that he should never had been behind the wheel.

Kepler Funk, Melbourne attorney, who accompanied Lane when he surrendered, issued a statement saying, “We are conducting our own investigation of every aspect of the accident, including the blood alcohol level.”

According to several witnesses Lane had been seen at several different local drinking establishments during the day .

That be him, thanks.

Different guy, all those biker types look the same to me.....

From above:  "According to police accounts, Lane sustained injuries along with his passenger Erin Derrick. Both Lane and Derrick were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment. Apparently at the hospital Lane refused a blood test. According to Police, officers held Lane down while a nurse took the blood sample. This sample was then sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcements lab in Orlando for testing." (emphasis added)

This is going to look real good during his trial.

What a dipsh*t.  Billy Lane actually is an engineer, got his degree from FSU, I believe.   Hope he rots in jail, or that he is cut up and used for organ donations.

That has always cracked me up - "we are unique, special, a different breed, wild, free spirits blah blah blah" yet you can spot 'em miles away, most of the time.  Same black leather clothes, same jewelry, same tattoos, all just slightly variant clones of each other mostly.  Whatever floats yer boat!  I just wish I owned stock in harley davidson.
