And here is what happens to those clunkers:
Warning: Sensitive jeep owners should not watch.
They drain the oil and refill the engine with sodium silicate then run them until the engine freezes up. We're spending $3 billion on making vehicles inoperable? I'm missing the logic somewhere.

That's real environmentally friendly!!
They just put more c$%p into the air than if the Jeep was run on the road for 10 more years!

Does anyone else see the irony or better yet the stupidity of what is happening? We just spent billions and billions of dollars to bail out the big 3 which for the timeframe for this program, their vehicles primarily fall into the "clunker" category which we are now throwing $3 billion more to get off the roads? |

Instead of donating these vehicles to needy families or charities,
instead of donating these vehicles to auto part recyclers (that might help create jobs and stimulate the economy by saving consumers money),
instead of lowering the air quality,
instead of killing small repair shops (and their part suppliers) that work on these cars,
Why don't they make participating manufacturers build their GREENER vehicles exclusively from these "clunkers".
Make the manufacturers build recycling facilities onsite at the plants.
Send the "clunkers" from the dealerships back to the ports, or hubs on the (now)empty car hauling trucks, trains and those huge ships going back overseas.
That would stimulate the economy by building plant facilities, creating a larger demand for logistical services, WAIT A MINUTE that would make too much sense.
I apologize for thinking again.
