Couldn't find the original thread, so I'll start another one.

Not too impressed with the quality of the P&J place up on north Jordan just past Maston Lake, so I've been looking elsewhere.

One place I found on Ebay is a trailer manufacturer in Philadelphia, TN, near Athens/Decatur (about 2/3 of the way to Knoxville from Chattahootchie.

Example heavy duty equipment trailer is located here:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-06-Equipment-Tractor-Auto -Trailer-10-400-VW_W0QQitemZ4599999864QQcategoryZ80769QQssP ageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Note the brakes on both axles, painted top and bottom, etc. other things that you don't normally get on a trailer made around here, that I can see anyway.  I've e-mailed the guy and he said they can make any size I need, but I haven't gotten into any details with him.  I still need to go to Lone Wolf and Larrimore (sp) down near Falkville.

Not planning on getting a trailer this heavy, just thought it interesting and thought I'd pass it along.

I got mine at Larrimore and believe it was a very well made trailer and very heavy duty and a good value.....I didn't care for PJ's that much either....Lone Wolf was cheaper but when you started comparing how many inches apart the cross members were and that the wood floor was sprayed (it will apear greenish) instead of pressure treated you start to see why the trailer is cheaper.....Best Built Trailer makes some very nice trailers I think they are made in either in Winston or Walker county.....one thing that I did notice was when I went to some eight trailer places in north alabama and southern tennessee and told them the different manufactures that I'm looking at.....two names kept coming up as manufatures that made a good quality product Larrimore and Best Built.....hope this helps.

Yes, that does help.  I'm going to have to take off early one day and go visit Lone Wolf and Larrimore.

Thanks,

Al,

I stopped by Lone Wolf Trailers and Lawrimore Trailers on my way back from Birmingham today.

The guy at Lone Wolf, Bryant Hovis, was very helpful.  For 16' X 83" steel floor (diamond plate) car hauler with brakes on both axles $1850. For the same trailer with a pressure treated wood floor $1595.  It doesn't matter in the price if you want a dove tail or a straight bed trailer and the ramps store underneath the rear of the trailer.  They looked like quality trailers made out of 4" channel and the new tires that come on them look like heavy duty trailer tires.  Bryant said they could build whatever you wanted.

I couldn't find anyone to help me at Lawrimore trailers, but I looked at what seemed to be a 16' car hauler with a wood floor for $1250.  It didn't have as heavy duty tires as the Lone Wolf and I'm sure it only had brakes on one axle.

I hope this helps.

Bob, that does help.

How did you find the price on the Law trailer?  Was it on the trailer itself, therefore indicating they'll sell direct?  Did you happen to look at the crossbars and see any difference?

Thanks,

Al

If you are up Fayettevile way check out:

Parr Trailer Sales
1710 Huntsville Hwy
Fayetteville, TN 37334
931-433-6930

They sell Texas Bragg & PJ (not P&J).  They sell a lot of trailers.

There is also a trailer sales place on the way up there on the west side of the road near the state line.  They had some used goose neck car haulers in there the last time I went by at a very good price.

Yes, it's Hwy 431.  Parr is right across the street from Rachels Restaurant.  If you get to Walmart, you've gone too far.

The Lawrimore trailers had price tags on them and no I didn't crawl underneath and look at the crossbars.  Just for fun while I was talking to Bryant at Lone Wolf I also priced a 30' goosneck trailer with 10,000 pound axles, $4300.  They are made out of 10" channel.

What was gross weight, do you recall?

My truck's GCWR (gross Combined Weight Rating) is 23,000#.  This means that if my truck itself weighs about 7500#, I can tow a trailer and load up w/ camping gear etc that weighs about 15,500#.  Assuming 1500# worth of camping gear etc (in other words, Al is not going with me ), that leaves 14,000# gross weight for the trailer.

What happens when you loan your trailer to a buddy, who's daughter's boyfriend's truck which pulled the trailer is a LOWRIDER:

Oh well.  No biggie since I got that nice WELDER that Al loaned me.

I bought a 14K gooseneck form Lone Wolf a year and a half ago.  It has served me well for business use.  I did the math to make sure I was under the CDL requirements.  For our 2001 Chevy Dually, it worked out that a 14K rated trailer was the max we could go without having to acquire a CDL for the driver.

The trailer is very durable and high quality in my opinion.  THey even hooked the trailer to the truck upon pickup and verified that all the lights and brakes were properly wired to the dually.  This trailer has a dovetail with ramps that flip up to make the deck flat when stored.  It's a very nice option to have.  It has two 7K axles with single tires at each end.  It also has a storage rack underneath the goose neck in front for straps, chains, whatever.  I believe I paid $4500 for it.  It was bought before the green wood came out.

Mods include heavy right foot and oversized cooler.

On another note, I have bought some trailer tires for my 16" car hauler form P&T Trailer sales on Jordan.  I can't compalin about the price, but these are the worst trailer tires ever.  They are Carlisle trailer tires in ST205 x 15" size.  I have had two blowouts and the second nearly got me killed by a Wal Mart truck.  These are supposed to be trailer rated tires and have the proper load rating.  They just won't hold up.  The other two have almost no tread left and are only a year and a half old.  The trailer only gets used once or twice a month.

Anybody got any recommendations?  The dry rotted car tires on there before never gave me a moments trouble.  I'm considering going back with car tires.

Talk to Carlisle. Several people on Pirate had problems and the tires were replaced. I have them on my car hauler. Had them 3 years with no problems, even to Moab and back.

All this trailer talk has me wanting a gooseneck again.  JC

What can I say, I have a Samurai and Dodge tow rig.

What is the deal with the Goodyear Marathon's?  Are they car tires?

I noticed today that the Cub Cadet mower dealer has a couple of car hauler trailers for sale.  They are on Hwy 72 West, just across 72 from where you turn to go to Moontown Airport.  That's about 1 mile before you cross Flint River.

Don't know the brand.  They were black and looked like bumper pulls.
