1991 YJ Fuel Gauge

   I just bought a used 1991 YJ in great condition. When I test drove it, the gas guage was working. Now it stays pegged above full. I know the gauges in Jeeps are exactly the best but what would be the best thing to check first to see what the problem is. I have read that there are ground issues to the gauge. Let me know what fixes you have done, if any. Thanks!

	My daughter had a 99 that all of the dash guages would go to zero interminttenly. The dash panelconnections had a problem, and its apparently pretty common. I found the solution on jeepaholics anonymous, here: http://www.jeepaholics.com/support/default.asp Yours sounds more like it might be a stuck sending unit, which requires dropping the tank.

	If you loose the ground to your sending unit it thats exactly what it will do. I would check all wiring off the tank , and any connections behind the dash like ala-toy said before I went and dropped the tank.

	I took the entire gauge cluster out yesterday and cleaned up the ribbon cable and the grounds with a rag and alcohol. After taking the fuel gauge completely out of the panel and cleaning up the mating surfaces for a better connection, the gauge appears to be working correctly. Thanks for all of your input.
