Hello, I just moved to Huntsville as part of my work with NASA. I have been offroading at Camp Jeep in California and I've been up to Turkey Bay in KY a few times (as shotgun). So I'm new to offroading. I believe in the Tread Lightly! campaign as I'm also a Boy Scout Scoutmaster (or was before I moved here) and believe in packing out what I pack in, and then some. With this club, I noticed a lot of the rigs are way past stock. How many people have essentially stock rigs? Here is what I'm driving: 1997 TJ SE Would I have problems running with the stuff you guys do? This is definitely a daily driver for me, so I do have the license and insurance! :) -Paul |

Everyone is a beginner at some time! Our intent is NOT to tear up vehicles or break things, and your focus on TL and scouting certainly fits with ours. We have been trying to build some bridges with the scouts for a while, but havent been successful yet. W#e had an easy ride this weekend that you would have done fine on. Anytime we do hard stuff, we ALWAYS ensure that the stock rigs either have a go-around, or we get them through without damage. You will be very surprised what your stock rig can do when you have some experience. Check the event calendar for meetings, rides etc. With the holidays and deer hunting season upon us (both of these are religions around here) we dont have many outings during this part of the year. We would love to have ya along! |

Doc, Thanks for the information. I have to admit, seeing some of these seriously worked up Jeeps can be a bit intimidating. We are coming from a two-income situation to a one-income situation, so I won't be doing much work on it anytime soon. But what I have driven on in CA was certainly doable, and I got past things other TJ's (stock and modded) got stuck on. I'm hoping to get to join you real soon, but the next few weekends are for the holidays, and for getting our new home all put together from the move (once our stuff is here). I'm actually in an apt about 1/2 mile north of your meeting spot. :) |

Paul,
Don't be too intimidated by all the mods some of us have. We get them over time and by saving money, and just like everyone, money doesn't grow on trees for us either. Furthermore, a lot of the club members will help with your projects (Doc and Jeremy (Scoutman) come to mind) and help you build and/or design stuff. Next meeting is the first Wed. of the month. I hope to see you there! Thanks, Al |

My jeep is mostly stock and I haven't felt left out at all. In
fact if anything this is the best group to go with when you are
learning to ride with a mostly stock/stock vehicle. Coal Mine
rides are a great place to start. Check the calendar and make
sure to attend our meetings on the 1st wed. of every month!

I am planning on being at the meeting next month, but I already know my
month of March is taken up by a lot of spring break stuff with the kids
and going back to California to get my boat. I'd love to make
some rides sometime. I had planned on the cleanup, but stuff happened
to keep that from occurring. :(
