Hey everyone. I just bought a Wrangler last Saturday that already had some things done to it, such as a ProComp suspension set, 32X11.5X15 tires and other minior things. I'm no automotive guru save the easy stuff, i.e. alternator replacements, changing sparkplugs, etc. I've always had a strong desire to know how to do all things with Jeeps, but googling gets old if you don't know what to look for. I know the simple stuff like deflating the tires a bit for added traction and when to use 4HI vs 4LO, but not too much beyond that.
Immediately after I bought my Wrangler, I went to Rocket City Offroad at Jordan Ln to have the mechanic give it a onceover and tell me if he saw any obvious things out of place. He couldn't find anything. We discussed upgrades like wenches, KC lights, running boards, etc., but I really wanted to know what all things had been modified so I could go from there to find out what I didn't need to replace/upgrade. I didn't want to bug him since he probably had better things to do than talk to someone that obviously didn't know all that much about things like "lockers", "ideal gear ratios", etc. I've done a little research trying to discover what I should be looking at for upgrades and such, but it's frustrating when you don't know enough about offroading stuff to ask the right questions. So, I've got my $50 in hand, a decent Wrangler for off-roading (sans some of the items you listed on your must-have list) and a huge willingness to shut up and listen to those willing to offer any sort of advice. I've wanted a Jeep since I was first able to look upon one and, now, finally have the ability to afford one at 32 years of age. The Jeep will be in my possession until I'm no longer of sound mind. I don't have to tell you all what a feeling it is to be able to look out my front window and see MY Wrangler parked out there, begging me to take it off the beaten path. Can't help but drive it despite the miserable gas mileage! Thanks for your time reading all this and I wish the next meeting were sooner! Regards, John P.S. Just an FYI, you all probably already have great people to help you with I.T.-related tasks, but I want to offer my services free of charge for this club should any needs arise. We can discuss my areas of expertise outside of this forum either in IM or, preferably, in person. Currently, I work for Avocent as a Lead Enterprise Technical Consultant for Serial and KVM over IP solutions. On that note, I wanted to say that I would have NO problem if the club leader wanted to use my web hosting provider and my account to host the site on, should the need ever arise. I would foot the bill for the hosting charges as the package isn't being utilized to anywhere close to its potential i.e. bandwidth, disk space, etc. |

Welcome to the world of four wheeling. You'll get plenty of advice here so ask away. Our club meetings are the 1st Thursday of the month, 7:00 PM at the Marine Reserve Center on South Memorial Parkway.

The first thing you need to understand, Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket. After you get by that, you'll do fine. JC

Welcome to Huntsville and the Rocket City Rock Crawlers 4x4 Club! What's your Wrangler missing from the Club list? Reminder that our meeting is this Thursday, 7 PM, USMC Reserve Center, South Parkway. Get off the Parkway at the exit just after Drake, the USMC Center is about a half mile or so south of the Hollywood Movie theater place. Welcome! Al
