It was voted down mainly due to safety reasons.

Spectator safety has been an issue in the past, and although the club has done its best in mitigating that risk, there was enough concern about liability that a majority voted to not have the competition this year. The course lay-out for last year's event was a result of our trying to make the event safer for spectators. The feedback we got from competitors was that they did not like the up and down course, so we are taking a year off to reevaluate how we can satisfy both competitors and spectators, and make the event better.

As of right now KOTH is gone forever, unless the club votes to have it again. The liability issues KOTH presents are enormous and have always been enormous. We have had several incidents were spectators and event staff have been put in unecessary danger. Flying rocks and out of control vehicles have caused problems in the past and will continue be a problem in the future no matter what we do. Nothing has happened yet, but a lot of club members are concerned about the safety of everyone out there and what could happen. Another reason KOTH was voted down is because there is a growing majority of club members who want to skip KOTH to provide us more time to ride. Yes, the event has become more manageable over the past couple of years, but it still doesn't run itself. It takes time and comittment to put the event on, and we would rather get back to riding. Another thought on the matter is that many off road parks are starting to host rock/hill climb competitions.

and like you said... every rock race you run the risk of getting hit by a rogue rock or something... but ya kinda know that going into it ;)

its all about the tradition .... if you build it... they will come!
