Hi guys, probably none of you know who I am but I am trying to start an online rally for Tellico. If some of you are not sure of what that is, it's the easiest way to show your support for the Tellico OHV. All you have to do is log onto Pirate4x4.com on May 7th and post a story and/or a picture with a comment about why you want to keep the Tellico OHV open.

We only have a few short weeks and we desperatly need to get the word out. Please take a minute and tell everyone you know online about the rally and how they can help. I will be releasing a press release that you can send to your local papers, radio, etc. as well as the final times the rally will be held. The thread is here:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=675865

Even if you aren't registered on pirate please take this opportunity to do so and show your support. I really believe this will give SFWDA and the BRC the extra boost that it's been needing.

Thanks for all your help.

Hey everyone just wanted to stop in with another update. We now have the press release ready for distribution! Please take time to spread this to everyone that you think would benefit. This includes newspapers, tv, radio, USFS employees, state OHV boards, politicians, businesses, etc.

I also have some other news. We now have recruited vendors that are supporting this effort. I will be releasing these names and items donated in the thread on pirate right now! Come check out who has stepped up to support our cause and thank them every chance you can get. Some of this stuff is valued over $650!!!!

Here is the press release:

VIRTUAL ONLINE RALLY FOR UPPER TELLICO OHV AREA
Pirate4x4.com builds on a successful rally format to protest more route closures

After an extremely successful virtual rally for Johnson Valley and the world renowned Hammers rock crawling trails in California, Pirate4x4.com members are shifting their focus to the east coast and are once again gathering for a massive virtual rally to save the Upper Tellico OHV Park in North Carolina. On Wednesday May7th, 2008, Pirate4x4.com, a leading website for the OHV community, will hold this rally from 4 to 9 pm eastern standard time.

In 2007, the Southern Environmental Law Center, in coalition with Trout Unlimited and P.E.E.R. (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility) filed a notice of intent to sue the Untied Stated Forest Service, claiming it was in violation of the federal water pollution act. This coalition stated that the Upper Tellico OHV area was dumping sediment into nearby streams and destroying the habitat of local brook trout.  In turn, the USFS closed a major portion of the Tellico trail system.

There are many arguments against closing this popular OHV area, and many organizations involved in keeping it open. Carla Boucher, the attorney for the United Four Wheel Drive Associations states, “United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA), along with its partners Blue Ribbon Coalition and Southern Four Wheel Drive Association, are committed to taking all steps necessary to save our access at Tellico, including legislative, administrative, and legal action!”  This rally will bolster the efforts made by these organizations in this battle by showing a large contingent of OHV users who back and support these organizations in their efforts.

Virtual rally participants will be asked to post their experiences, photos and history recreating with their families in the Tellico area along with their feelings and beliefs as to why the trail system should not be closed. Their comments will be posted and tracked in a bulletin board format, with a goal of creating a lasting record of how important this area is to a vast number of people in the OHV community. Tellico is one of the very few public areas on the east coast for OHV recreation.  Interested parties are encouraged to participate in the rally and read the thread.

On March 12th 2008, Pirate4x4.com hosted a similar virtual rally for the world renowned OHV trail system in Johnson Valley, CA.  That rally had nearly 1,500 posts from OHV enthusiasts all across the world in a four hour time span. Saved in time in order to create a lasting homage to the rally, to date the Hammers rally has been viewed by over 48,000 people.

The online rally thread may be found at the top of this forum:  www.pirate4x4.com/landuse

Please continue to send those press releases too. Hit the major magazines!!! Primedia covered the Hammers Rally and we need their support on this too.

RCRC is directly supporting Trailfest, and several of the members will be there either as workers or event participants.  I look forward to meeting the fellow who is doing so much to energize the 4X4 community towards support of the RescueTellico efforts.

Just stopping in with another update. I’m not sure if everyone realizes it or not but we have 1 week left to get the word out. We still need everyone to spread the word around about this. The press releases can still be found in the Pirate thread, as well as, flyers for any events this weekend or businesses that might post them up. I’ll be posting web addresses in the Pirate thread to send the releases to. Please take a minute and send some!

Remember that we have had more sponsors show up and give their support for Tellico. So far we Trailworks, Copperhead Fab, DiffsOnly.com, Summit Machine, C&M Performance Machine, Silly Fab and more to come (hopefully!). I hope this isn’t the only reason you show up but is more of a reward for doing your part to save the Upper Tellico OHV.

Keep looking through those photos and bring your best story. We want to have positive words of encouragement about the area. I’ll try my best to stop back by here before May 7th. See you guys there.

btw - i don't think I'm going to make it to Trailfest. I can still print some flyers but unfortunately CNC in California won't have my slave cylinder back to me in time to go. That is unless it shows up on Friday. If it does, I"ll be there!!!

My schedule has been crazy and I haven't been able to get with everyone like I had planned. I have to work a little during the day so I won't get fired  Anyway, sorry I wasn't able to make it to Trailfest. I heard it was great. A few people from the ET4WD were there and said they loved it.

The important news though is that the online rally is today!!!! It will start at 4 PM eastern time. There will be many people and eyes watching this to see the kind of support that the Upper Tellico area can draw. This is our time to show those people the support this area has in large numbers! Please take a minute and spread the word and stop by to post a pic and/or a short story about why the area means so much to you and your family. The goal is to crash the server and make this bigger than the Hammer Rally. Thanks in advance to everyone and I hope to see all of you there!
