I have a Toyota 3.4 v6 that has not run (since the wreck) in 2-1/2 years. I did start the engine while the 4runner was still at the wrecking yard and it seemed fine. The engine has 125,000 miles on it and was running on Mobil1.

My question is what should I do to the engine before I start it again. Should I pull the valve covers and cover the cams in oil, put oil in the cylinders? I had thought about taking the oil pressure sending unit out and pumping oil in while turning the engine over with the spark plugs out.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Assuming it can be turned by hand, I'd throw a teaspoon of mystery oil in each cylinder.  If the rockers aren't roller type then pulling the covers and pouring oil like you said would be good, but if they are roller then I wouldn't bother.  Then crank it with the plugs out for a minute, that will pre-fill all the oil galleys and lube the cams.

I've torn apart motors that have been sitting for years and everything is still covered in oil. It's not gonna be dry like it would if it were a fresh rebuild. I might sguirt a little oil in the cylinder like Bryan suggested to lube the rings. Other than that, I wouldn't stress over it. Fire it up.

If you're stressing over it, take the plugs out, squirt some oil into the cylinders (marvel mystery oil is good) and spin the starter till the oil pressure light goes out.  Put the plugs back in and start it, and sit back and enjoy your mosquito fogger.
