From a WSJ Online article:
But let's not stop at a 42% top rate; as a thought experiment, let's go all the way. A tax policy that confiscated 100% of the taxable income of everyone in America earning over $500,000 in 2006 would only have given Congress an extra $1.3 trillion in revenue. That's less than half the 2006 federal budget of $2.7 trillion and looks tiny compared to the more than $4 trillion Congress will spend in fiscal 2010. Even taking every taxable "dime" of everyone earning more than $75,000 in 2006 would have barely yielded enough to cover that $4 trillion.
This is getting rediculous.  At what point do we throw the flag?

He ain't the only one tacking on extra debt. Why not cut politicians pay or put a cap on it significantly lower. Ever heard of one being broke? What about the president? He will bw set for life after his term.does he really need 200k a year if we buy everything anyway?

Considering that we have passed legislation that borrows 74% of the nation's GDP, our government's credit rating will soon reach junk bond status globally. That is why Bernanke is telling you that nterest rates will be considerably higher in the near future. It is also why Buffet says that it is unwise to hold large amounts of low interest, cash equivalent investments, due capital loss from the interest rate risk in a rising rate environment. The problem is, where DO you put you money?

Don't you find it somewhat interesting that all of this hits the fan just as the baby boomers were thinking thay could start to retire, as reported in papers this past year? Hold on to your wallet!
