Anyone have any 1.75" X .120" or 11 gage HREW Round Steel Tube laying around they would like to sell? I just need 5' to 10' to do some testing with my bender. If I order it from Service Steel, I assume it comes in 20' lengths? Brad |

Yes, but they'll usually cut it for you, at least they do for me. I got a piece around somewhere at home, let me look, maybe we can do a trade.....

The stuff that service steel carries in stock is 1.75x .083" which is apparently what the dirt track guys use for their racecars. I have a few sticks of it by mistake that I'll have to use for something. When we tried to bend it for Al's front bumper it kinked the bend. Make sure it is the heavier walled stuff, and yes it will come in 20' lenghts. Johnny will have to order the .120" walled stuff but it should only take a day or 2 to get in.

Interesting. I always thought it kinked because we read the directions AFTER doing the bends. Great, now I don't feel so guilty. Thanks,

Went over to SS and bout 20' of 1.75 X .083 for $24. He said that was roll bar tubing. It looks more like something a $49 Chinese yard swing set is made out off. It's thin. I'm think I could build a lawn chair or something out of it. Brad |

120 wall is just a hair under 1/8 inch thick, while 083 is like 1/12 inch thick. Keep in mind that in a race car cage you want deformation, so it gives and absorbs the impact. In a rock crawler, this just means it bends. Everything I have read says use 120 wall or thicker for 4x4 rig - that's what I am going to use......and 1/4 wall for suspension links. |

That's the price he gave me, except I asked for it in the .120 flavor. Apparently, he only knows one type of tubing in the 1.75" size. Did you find out the price for the .120 stuff?

I bought some of the .083 stuff from SS a couple of weeks ago. Added a B pillar hoop and tied it to the factory 4Runner rollbar, so I could pass "tech" at the Tuff truck competition at the VBC. What a joke that ended up being, as there was no "tech". Anyway, figured it would be good learning for me, as I have never done any cage work before. Looks great and had no kinking, using a 8 inch radius mandrel. I'll go back one of these days and replace the .083 with .120. Johnny said he could get .120 wall for 5 or 6 buck more(I paid $24 for .083). I plan to order a couple of stick next week to start fabricating bumpers.

Posey, How long does it take Johny to get the 1.75 X .120? I need to get 20' or 40' also in the next few weeks. Brad |

He talked like it would only take 2 or 3 days. I'll call him Monday and see. I will probably go ahead and order two sticks. Edited by jposey66 |

Bought some HREW round tube from Service Steel today. I called in and ordered it at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon and it was here the next day. They said they have a truck running from B’ham every day. Price was: 1.75 X .120 = $1.50/lf + tax 1.25 X .120 = $1.10/lf +tax Brad |

I called him, the week before last, to get a price and he never called me back. I think he got you and I mixed up, because when I called him back, he seemed really confused and thought he had already taken care of me. I'll try again now that he has you taken care of.

If you order it, pick a couple of days when it's not raining. I couldn't go get it on Friday and it sat out in the rain, dew and frost all weekend. Brad |

I buy my steel at JMS Steel in Decatur. They have good prices and have everything that I need for my wroughtiron shop. Never heard of Service Steel. Where are they located.
If you want some inexpensive steel for projects, Harris Steel in Dodge City(near Cullman) is the cheapest around. Sabel in B'ham is inexpensive too. |

They are on the west end of Airport Road, just a bit west of where the road crosses huntsville spring branch. Its not called airport road once it crosses Leeman Ferry, cant recall what the name changes to, johnson road or something? |
