Putting a fire stik antenna on. Do I need to use a spring under it or is it sturdy enough? Sticks about a foot above hardtop. Also does anybody have a swr meter to tune it. It’s adjustable.

I like the firestik heavy duty springs.  They are stiff enough that antenna doesn't swing back and forth unless it really needs to.

I have a meter I could bring to the next meeting and check it.  Firestiks are usually very easy to adjust if the antenna is in a good location, has a good ground, coax, mount, ,etc.

How long is your antenna?

If you imagined a 1.5 foot long 45 degree cone  starting at the tip of the antenna with the open end down, would there be any metal in it?

When you measure the swr, make sure you have the little plastic cap installed on the antenna........it makes a big difference.
