bubbles in fuel line?

This seems weird.  I was getting some gasoline our of my 4runner by disconnecting the return line and running it into my gas can.  I've done it before, but this time used some clear tubing.  There's bubbles coming out along with the fuel.  LOTS of them, I would guess 1/3 of the volume coming out is air.  Normal?  Or do I need to be pulling the fuel pump?
