Today is the special election to allow or not our state lawmakers to borrow money from the State's Trust fund.

I personally feel that we were lied to on that ballot. The words that were used made it seem like terrible things were going to happen, like prisoners were going to be sent to the streets, and elderly folk and kids would be left to starve. The only words here that tell you what is really going to happen to this money is "transferring funds form the Alabama Trust Fund to the State General Fund". The problem I see here is that this money can now be abused by politicians, education hierarchy, Medicaid,
and who ever else is slimy enough to get their hands on it. I may be pessimistic when it comes to our government, but they have not earned my trust.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence:
from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage." -- Alexander Tyler |

The AEA finally got their hands on that pot of money they have been drooling over for the last 20 years. All they needed was a one-issue special election where the wagon pullers stayed home and the wagon riders showed up.

Good questions Doc and i have no answers. Though Jefferson nailed in the Declaration of Independance when he wrote ,"accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."
