What ever happened to the good ol' days, when kids settled differences with a fist fight? This is terrible!

The wifes sister just moved back down here from Indianapolis and is living down on County Line Rd. just down from where the plane wrecked a few weeks ago and now my nephew is at Discovery Middle School. What a welcome back to Alabama this is. Wonder how proud the shooters parents areof him.

Things were not all that much greater when I was a kid.  I was in a school shooting back in the early 80's... it's just more common with more media coverage. :(

Prayers to the victim's family.  I'm thinking they'll try the kid as an adult, but personally I think the parents bear some responsibility for not being involved with the kid and giving the kid access to unsecured firearms (presumed at this point).

This sucks.

Going to High School in the 70's, probably a third of the vehicles in the parking lot were trucks. All with gun racks (which weren't empty). Never had the problems with school shootings like we do today. Problem is that while I was in HS, schools started being handed over to the Feds. My sophomore year we lost the ability of the individual school to develop their lunch program. Food selection dropped and so did quality while price went up. This is also the time that society got to the point of letting the government take the responsibility for raising their children. Gone were the days of the parents being involved in their kids lives. They wanted a glorified babysitter to take care of the "brats" while they worked for the money to buy toys and go on trips. As a result kids drifted from parental respect and control and started acting out looking for attention. But it couldn't be their fault, they were "good kids" it must be the guns, discipline, cirriculum, etc. anything but the kids (or heaven forbid the parent's) fault. We are just reaping what we sowed with a society where personal responsibility and common sense have gone the way of the dodo bird.

paper said shooter glorified gang culture and was reacting to being teased by the victim.  victim might have belonged to a rival "gang".

apparently walked up and shot him in the back of the head with no emotion at all.

One of the people who work for me has a daughter who witnessed it.  She's quite unravelled, as you can imagine.  Also, he says "We arent being told the truth about this" and Im not sure what he means, havent gotten to talk to him yet.

I agree with Robert.  Hell, I was on a shooting team in highschool.  We used to bring rifles in to the school, and the administrators would "check them in" to the "armory" which was a vault in the basement of the admin building.  There was an indoor range in the basement of the old gymnasium, and we used to shoot there regularly.

The problems stem from this idea of government nannyism and no one being responsible for their own actions, starting with the act of procreation.

My son's military school closed their indoor range (for .22's) after a cadet was killed on accident (negligent discharge and ricochet).

AMEN on that part in bold...

No he won't.  I've been hearing from several different media outlets about how "depressed" the kid was and how he was "troubled" after already being moved from one middle school to the other.  The victim is of course painted in only the highest of colors in one breath but in the next breath excuses are made for the shooter because he was bullied by the victim.

He'll get hospitalization and juvenile prison and be out in the world in no time at all.
