While not a 100% victory to allow unrestricted ownership, the decision reached and announced today is a much better solution than them upholding the DC gun ban.  I think there will still be restrictions and there is still room for other 'reasonable' regulation, but nobody's coming to my door to collect my stuff.

The big win here is the majority opinion that the 2nd is clearly a right granted to the INDIVIDUAL, not the collective in the form of an organized military of some sort.

That in and of itself was a huge hurdle.

It is a 5-4 decision that is only one Obama apointment away from being overturned.

Sorry, it's not that simple.

A plaintiff would have to file suit, and it would then have to come BACK before the SCOTUS (no easy task itself), then they would have to actually agree to hear the case - and there is a BIG burden there for them to agree to hear it so soon after just deciding it...

So no - this won't be overturned any time soon.

I wish you were right, but when 2 or 3 of those black robe wearin' gray beards go toes up and Obama puts his boys in there; we will see what happens.  The Suppreme Court does not always move slowly; they move at their own speed.

I gotta agree with 98TJ.  The Dems will struggle like hell to get this one turned around.

And I betcha donuts to doggie turds that the DC permit will require circumcision reversal or something crazy that will effectively muzzle the SCOTUS decision.

"Are we at last brought to such an humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our own defense? Where is the difference between having our arms under our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?"
