When I go out trail riding I keep getting mud in the beads of my tires causing them to loose air. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to prevent this from happening?

Stay outa the daggum mud!
What width wheels and what width tires? Im running 12.50s on 8 inch wheels, and rarely have problems with this. I think wide wheels on narrow tires tends to make the problem worse.

I have 10.50s on 8 inch wheels. I air them down to 15-18 lbs for trail use. |

Those 12.50 x 15 BFG MT’s I had were real bad about getting mud between the rim and the tire bead and leaking air. The lower the pressure I ran, the more likely it was to happen. Those BFG’s had some rubber that kinda hung out over the wheel rim and I think it was supposed to protect the wheel rim a little. But when I ran low pressure (10 psi), mud would get caught in there and get “pumped” into the area where the tire contacted the wheel rim. That would happen to me about 3 or 4 times a year with those BFG’s. I used to have to remove the tire and pop one side of the bead to clean the mud out enuff to stop the leak. But I saw a guy up at Summertown take a foot long piece of 2x2 and put the end of it on the tire right at the leak and beat the shit out of the other end with a BFH and the air inside the tire blew most of the mud out. I started using that method and it worked about 90% of the time. I haven’t had that problem with the new SX’s and beadlocks. Edited by 98TJ - 23 December 2010 at 3:28am |
