Well,i've just finished rebuilding my 351W (to the tune of $2,500), and i'm currently looking for a shop or someone to rebuild my C4 auto tranny. I can pretty much do any kind of mechanical work (engines, gears/lockers, brakes, welding, fabricating, etc), however, i've been told that if i don't know what i'm doing (i.e. don't have any experience doing), then auto trannies should be left to people who do it all the time..  SO.. do any of you know of any good shops in the Huntville, Athens, or decatur areas that can rebuild my c4 and new torque converter for it for a decent/reasonable price, and can back up their work?  If not, i'm going to just tackle this myself... One guy quoted me 1,000 dollars.. i just laughed and said i could do it myself for under 350... so, if not...guess i'll be learning how to do it!! (oh, for those who are wondering what this is for, it's for my 74 Ford Bronco Project)..

thanks

Luke

You might want to try Automatic Transmissions located on Washington St.  I just had my 93' Dakota auto rebuilt a few weeks ago and I'm satisfied so far.  The gentleman who runs the business has been rebuilding trannies for a good number of years, but his price might run a tad high.

his prices have always been like that, I use Ollie Nance(Nance Transmissions) over on Meridian Street. Damn good Tranny builder and reasonable.  Been building them for about 35 years.

Jimmy Calloway built my TH400 as well.  Actually he has built two different ones for me.  Never had a problem with either.  He bench built (you pull it and bring it to him) them for $400 each with a new torque converter.  He had them back to me in 3 or 4 days.  The phone is 828-9828.

I had my tranny rebuilt on the dakota at spartan once before and only lasted 5 months before having problems again.
