A hybrid Wrangler with an 8 speed auto, or one with a Mexican-built* V6 and a Japanese built trans that produces less torque than the hybrid. Hmmm...... But it has round headlights! * According to the article, the engine is same as last year, but produced in Mexico instead of Michigan. |

hybrid is sort of an overstatement. it's a belt driven generator on the main serpentine that serves as the starter and an electric assist on takeoff as the turbo spools up. I think it also helps when offroad when you may be at lower RPM. interested to know where they put the batteries.

I agree if generator is belt driven off engine and not tranny then I don't see how it will be able to capture braking energy unless they keep the torque converter locked till very slow speed is achieved. Assuming auto with manual you could capture some braking energy but don't think the average driver would use the engine to slow the Jeep.

I think it will just generate power from the idling engine during that braking period.
