Now a days it really does seem to be at least 3 different states. Surfers in SoCal, tree hugging hippies in central, and more moderate people in NorCal.

Most of the central valley of California is quite conservative. It's the nutjobs along the coast that screw things up out there. Living out there we were usually going WTF at some of the decisions that were made to benefit the coastal cities...
